HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBY!
It was a low key birthday, but, true to form, Abby said it was one of her FAVORITES!! She got to sleep in because of some testing at school, so, she and friends went to breakfast at her favorite...Einstien's Bagels. She waited til her waffle dinner to open presents and then waited for McKenzie Calder and Jamison (two of her BFF's) to come over for cake. Some may think that turning 17 is pretty anticlimatic after 16, however, Abby told me "I can't WAIT to turn 17!" When I asked her why, she said, "Because 17 is the age the Edward will be FOREVER, and 17 is the age that Harry was when he defeated Lord Voldemort." How can you beat that? She's in good company!
The day before Abby's birthday we had the day off school, so, she and I spent a fun day together at a charming bookstore in Salt Lake that she's been dying to visit. It's called King's English, and it's the type of place I can see Abby working (or, rather, owning) some day. Her love for books and learning are inspirational. I have often said that she is a perfect child...she's done a better job of raising me and Tim than we have done raising her. She is an old soul with a young heart. She didn't know what she wanted for her birthday, but, said she thought about asking for some food storage....she said she may use a little of her birthday money to buy some peaches and a few things...hmmm....guess I better beef up our food storage so my children will sleep better at night (: At the end of our day together, I felt a little melancholy wondering how I will ever survive when she goes off to college. I can't wait for the adventures that are in store for her, but, I will relish EVERY minute that we have until 18. We're so grateful she came into our family 17 years ago...she is one of my VERY best friends!!
